If you are traveling in China, please don’t be startled when you hear fireworks during the day or night. Fireworks are used for many occasions, and they are louder there than in the states. If you know what a M 80 is, then imagine a long string of them tied together and that is a common string of fireworks in China. Yes, it is VERY loud.
Fireworks are used day and night for the lunar New Year, called Chun Jie. This is the largest holiday in China, and it is celebrated for weeks. Fireworks are also used for a new business opening or for a wedding. I have been told that some Chinese believe the use of fireworks will bring good luck!
