While traveling in China, I have stayed in some nice hotels and some that were not so nice. One thing they all had in common was a pair of slippers waiting on me. There is no fee for using them and they usually come in two different designs. One type is made of a soft cloth on the top with a thin bottom and they are almost always white. Some will have the hotel’s logo on them; those are usually a little better made. The second style is made of plastic and has a thicker sole. I have seen some hotel rooms that had a small basket in the closet full of slippers, so you could select what you wanted. Some people like to wear a pair of the plastic slippers in the shower, but be careful because you may not have much traction on the wet floor!
