An overwhelming percentage of people in China live in apartment buildings, which I would say are more like condominiums, since they are purchased. They don’t offer the amenities most Americans think of, like tennis courts and swimming pools. Some do have businesses on the first floor, which makes it very convenient to get your groceries, dry cleaning, or even go to a restaurant.
In this picture you can see several tall apartment buildings in the background and a new building being constructed in the foreground. The amount of new construction going on around China is AMAZING!
A new and growing concept in housing in China is a free standing home, which has more of a western feel to it than Asian. In the picture below, you can see the western style free standing homes on a golf course, which is another new and growing concept in China.
The only other places I know of that have free standing homes are the rural areas where the farmers live. As you may have guessed, they don’t have tennis courts or swimming pools either!
