One of the most unique structures in all of China, in my opinion, is the Pearl TV Tower!  It stands across the Huangpu River from an area known as The Bund in Shanghai. There is actually a train that goes under the river to take people back and forth to either side of the river’s banks.  The Pearl TV Tower’s construction started in 1991 and was completed in 1994. It is 1535 feet tall!

The tower has 11 spheres. The two largest spheres have diameters of 164 feet and 148 feet, respectively. The highest sphere is 46 feet in diameter.  As you can see from the picture above, the structure is supported by 3 columns, which go underground for greater support.  The building has 15 observation levels. The highest level is 1148 feet high; it’s called the Space Module.

This amazing building contains a revolving restaurant (which is 876 feet high), an exhibition facility, other restaurants, a shopping mall, and a 20-room hotel called the Space Hotel.  The Space Hotel is located between the two largest spheres.

I can only imagine how wonderful the view must be from the highest observation location. The land around Shanghai is fairly flat; I am sure you can see a great distance from that elevation.  The air in Shanghai is cleaner than in Beijing, so your visibility won’t be decreased by the air quality.  This building is well worth the trip if you have the time and are in Shanghai!
