If you have read my blogs before, you may have heard me say that I feel safer on the streets of China than I do on the streets of America. Yes, knowing that people there don’t have guns is a contributing factor, but the people I have met in China are more humble and less violent than the people you see on the news in the states. True, there are exceptions to every rule, but if you do travel to China, I think you will agree with me that you feel very safe in the country and in the hotels.
One step the hotels seem to be taking now is with access to the floors above the lobby. Many hotel elevators now have a security system in place which will limit access to anything other than the ground floor.
This elevator requires you to swipe your room key and then depress the button for the floor you want to go to. If an activated room key is not waved in front of the reader, the buttons for your floor selection will not work. This system will hopefully keep thieves off the floors where the hotel guests are keeping their belongings. Something China and the states have in common is that cell phones are often stolen. Regardless of where you are, it is a good idea to keep your cell phone protected!
