There is an old observatory on Mount She that was developed by French Jesuits. Situated on the highest point in the Shanghai area and away from the city lights, this is a great location for an observatory.
Here is a view from inside the observatory. You can see where the dome would open for the telescope.
In this next picture you can see a balcony, which circles the dome. I am not sure what all was done from the balcony, but it must have been an impressive view both above and below.
The telescope would move to view different objects in space. To assist in the movement of the telescope, a track was laid in the floor.
This building was an interesting place to visit. I am sure if I had known more about the time period and work done here, I would have an even greater appreciation for the observatory!
