If you have read Lessons From China or Unseen Tears published by Global Partners in Life, you have heard of the group below. In both of the books I tell about a horrible event that happened well over a decade ago in a rural area near where I was teaching at a university in China. In this village there was an illegal fireworks factory, and unfortunately, there was a tragic fire in it. Several people were trapped inside the building, and sadly many people perished in the fire. Another very unfortunate aspect of the fire was all of the children that became orphans that day.

Once we learned about this, a few of the foreign teachers from the university and the former Director of the Foreign Language Department of the university decided we wanted to help the children. We pooled our resources, and we gave enough to pay the children’s school fees and school supplies for the rest of that school year. Some of us continued supporting the children the following years, and we were committed to meet the children’s educational expenses through high school. I am happy to report that all of these children graduated from high school except one. There was one boy that ran away from home one month before he graduated, so we were saddened by that news.

We also wanted to do more than just pay for the children’s educational expenses, so we would buy the children coats, hats, gloves, and warm socks. As you can see in the photograph above, this was a day when we purchased the children new coats and hats. The girl on the second row on the far left said it was too cold for her to take off her old coat and put on her new one, and I can’t say that I blame her!

Hopefully this will give you a better idea about the work Global Partners in Life is doing in China. We are meeting the needs and providing for the education of children who have no other hope than Global Partners in Life. Would you like to invest in the work we are doing?
