Have you ever seen a Mad Max movie? Well, the guy in the picture below looks like he could have been in the movie, but I seriously doubt he was. He is actually a street vendor in China, and his customer service skills are amazing.
I don’t remember his name, but I am sure he gave it to me. He roasts peanuts and almonds in a drum he has mounted on a cart, and they smell great when they are cooking. This man with the great smile will give free samples to customers — although it really is more like bait. I doubt he has many people that taste his delicious food and then not buy from him.
He must roast the nuts at a low temperature, otherwise his cart and everything on it would burn. You can see the oven and, beside that, the baskets of almonds and peanuts, which are all mounted on his food cart. He has a great location for his cart, as he is near a busy intersection; and the post office is right beside him, which brings in a constant flow of people.
If you purchases a bag of nuts from my friend, he will heat them up for you, if you want him to do that. To perform this task quickly, he has a pan sitting on top of the oven with something like fine gravel in the pan. The gravel holds the heat well, so the nuts warm up quickly. The scoop will allow him to retrieve the nuts, while the gravel sifts through the holes in the scoop.
If you look closely at the bottom of the photograph, you can even see some almonds being warmed up!
